These fun activities are designed for younger year groups and are an initial point of contact for students who have not considered applying for university in the future. Some of the activities have a career focus and can aid the pre-GCSE course selection process that normally happens at the end of Year 8.
Lost at Sea
This activity plays out a scenario that builds group decision making. Students are told to imagine they are adrift on a private yacht in the South Pacific and because of a fire, much of the boat and its contents have been destroyed. The yacht is now slowly sinking and their location is unclear as they have lost critical navigational equipment. Students are given a list of 15 items that are intact and undamaged by the fire. In addition to these articles, they have a rubber life raft with oars that is large enough to hold everyone and all the items on the list. Students are tasked with ranking the 15 items in terms of their importance to survival.
