Heroes and Villains!

We can learn a great deal about the values and philosophies that inform our society by looking at the ways in which ideals are portrayed in entertainment media. Examining heroic and villainous figures in comics, films, TV and literature, some of the questions we will look at are:

  • Who are the ‘good guys’ and who are the ‘bad guys’?
  • How can we tell?
  • Why do superheroes hide their identity?
  • Are heroes and villains always seen the same way by everyone?
  • Do heroes need some sort of power?
  • Are there kinds of behaviour that are never justifiable for the hero?
  • What do villains want and why?
