One of the main strengths of the student ambassadors is their ability to be flexible. They are involved in a wide range of activities including curriculum support and the delivery of workshops.
Many of our ambassadors work in secondary schools to support and raise the attainment of students. For example the Raising Achievement Group (RAG) project is being delivered at a local school. It aims to improve the grades of students capable of achieving five GCSEs at grades A-C but who, for some reason, are disengaged with education or struggling with a particular subject. This project is now entering its third year. As well as making a measurable difference to the GCSE results of these students, 83 per cent showed an improvement in at least one subject and now have a positive approach to learning.
The following sessions are planned to last for one school/college period but are flexible and can be adapted to suit your requirements.
Benefits of higher education
Why go to university? This informative session outlines the many long-term benefits of progressing to university.
Choices
A presentation to help you stimulate the choices that younger students will need to take for their options. This is coupled with the opportunity to interact with the ambassadors.
Colourblind
This is a versatile team development exercise. A wide-range of areas can be covered, depending on the learning objectives. The skills covered include developing good verbal communication skills, developing good coaching and instructional skills and delegating tasks and responsibilities.
MASH Test
This fun and easy-to-use card game is delivered by our student ambassadors and is suitable for Year 11–13 students. The UNIAID MASH (Money, Academic, Social and Health) test is guaranteed to break the ice with any group and get everyone talking. Players will gain great insight into themselves, their personal preferences and their attitude to money.
Qwizdom
Qwizdom Student Response System is an additional element that can be added to the Microsoft computer programme PowerPoint. It allows users to pose interactive questions in their presentations, and is designed to engage and motivate students while giving the tutor the tools to monitor and record student progress. Our student ambassadors can use this resource to deliver bespoke presentations to help with exam revision and information about higher education.
Student life
An interactive session suitable for all year groups to raise aspirations and communicate valuable experience of life at university.
What’s Behind the Walls?
For students that wonder what lies behind the perimeter wall of the university, this is their chance to find out. These half-day sessions can be tailored for any year group and include activities such as a taster lecture, tour of the campus and a talk on student life.
