National Scholarship Programme 2012–13

This scheme will be available to new students starting a programme of study with us in 2012–13 and whose programme fees are over £6,000. To be eligible to be considered for a National Scholarship you will need to meet the Government national eligibility criteria and the university additional eligibility criteria, detailed below.

Government national eligibility criteria

Students will need to have a declared household income of £25,000 or less.

University additional eligibility criteria

1.       Students will need to have been in the care of a Local Authority for a minimum of 52 consecutive weeks immediately prior to beginning a programme of study at the university and be aged 24 or under.

OR

2.       Students will need to have met an attainment threshold set each academic year by the university in GCSE Mathematics and English, or their equivalents or national equivalents for EU applicants. The university will determine qualifications we would consider as equivalents.

Students awarded a National Scholarship will receive a £1,000 cash scholarship and £2,000 fee waiver in Year 1 and a £1,000 fee waiver in Years 2 and 3, subject to passing all courses in the previous year.

Please note

1.       Meeting the eligibility criteria does not equate to an entitlement to a scholarship.

2.       Students will also be expected, where eligible, to have applied for means tested student support from Student Finance England and given consent to share information in order that their declared household income level may be verified.

We would normally have expected you to have done this by the 31 May 2012.

3.       The Government eligibility criteria also states that the following students who are:

  • Ordinarily resident* in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
  • NHS funded students
  • Funded for PG ITT by the Teaching Agency (formerly the TDA)
  • Continuing from one programme to another
  • Transferring institutions
  • Undertaking postgraduate qualifications
  • Part-time students undertaking less than 25% intensity of the full-time equivalent programme
  • Having their fees paid or part-paid through a sponsorship arrangement

Will not be eligible to apply for a National Scholarship and that students who are following part-time programmes or are EU nationals* will not be eligible for the maintenance element of any National Scholarship Programme award and therefore would not receive the cash scholarship of any NSP awarded.

4.  Decisions will be made on the basis of the information presented on your application form and there is no need to make a separate application to be considered for an NSP. Thus, please ensure all the sections on the UCAS application form (full-time students) or the University of Greenwich application form for part-time students are completed in full. You should also ensure that you and your parent(s) have agreed to ‘Consent to Share’ on your application for student support.

5. Further details on the NSP and other bursaries and scholarships at the university, for students starting programmes in 2012–13 will be available in the future.

*As defined in the Education (Student Support) Regulations 2011, for whom only Part 2 Schedule 1, para 9 applies.
