Music Technology, HND

This programme is designed for students who have successfully completed a BTEC National Diploma in Music Technology, Music or related discipline and intend to peruse careers in the music industry. It is a two year full time programme, allowing learners to complete their studies Higher National level.

Completing the programme will give students the skills and knowledge to progress to national employment in the music industry, including media and radio, acoustic engineering and self-employment, or to continue their studies onto our 12-month BA (Hons) top-up degree.

The programme is designed for students who have a strong interest in participating in creative music production within a group that offers a wide range of backgrounds and interests. They will have full access to a teaching team with a wide base of knowledge, including industry practitioners and guest lecturers.

Assessment

A wide range of teaching and learning strategies are used on the programme, including lectures, seminars group work and practical work. This includes written assignments, presentations, installations and maintenance of the college record label.

Career options

Professional higher technician or creative music producer. Working in a range of sectors and industries related to music production such as advertising, media teaching. Many individuals working in the music industry are self-employed and this programme aims to prepare students for the business environment

Specialist equipment/ facilities

Students will have access to industry standard equipment including Logic 9, Protools, Max MSP, Reaktor, Sibelius 5, Reason 4, and Ableton 7.

Aims of the programme

  • To build upon close ties with and develop students’ knowledge of and employability within the music industry
  • To provide students with personal development and encourage critical attitudes towards change so as to reflect the development and nature of the music industry environment
  • To provide specialist studies directly relevant to individual vocations and professions in which students are intending to seek employment or postgraduate study
  • To enable students to develop a range of transferable skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life and further study
