Every organisation procures materials and resources, so procurement and purchasing skills are much sought after by employers. This specialist Business programme gives a well-rounded approach to business management and allows students to specialise in the purchasing and supply chain management functions of business, including retail, service, manufacturing, fashion.

In this programme, students will be equipped with knowledge on the functions of purchasing and supply chain management and comprehend their impact in the overall efficient management of a business. These functions will be studied within the context of the changing global environment and taking into account the societal requirements for sustainable management and reduced carbon footprint from business operations.

The programme is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), the leading professional body in the field of purchasing and supply chain management. Students completing the programme gain partial exemption from the CIPS, giving them accelerated entry into this professional body (subject to approval).

The graduate employability rate of this programme is 88%.

The aims of the programme are:

  • To teach you the purchasing functions, supply chain management and their role within and across organisations business and management. You will study these functions within the context of the changing external environment in which organisations operate
  • To prepare you for a career in business management and consultancy by teaching practical skills that enhance your employability
  • To give you the skills to solve problems systematically and creatively.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have:

280 UCAS points

FROM at least two A-levels or equivalent qualification

PLUS GCSEs at grade C or above in English and mathematics or equivalent qualifications.

* Applicants who do not have English as their first language require IELTS of 6 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each skill) or equivalent in a Secure English Language Test. (Pre-sessional English language programme available prior to degree studies).

* Applications from mature students are welcome. Direct entry to Year 2 and 3 for qualified applicants.

Assessment

Students are assessed through assignments, examinations and presentations.

Professional recognition

Students usually get the affiliate membership to Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) and may be awarded CIPS Graduate Diploma (level 6) in purchasing and supply if they pass all modules.

Career options

Graduates often find employment as buying, purchasing, procurement, logistics, supply chain, project and operations managers. It is one of the few purchasing programmes offered in the UK, and previously we have heard from employers such as ASDA, Bravosolutions, KPMG and Ford who have shown great interest in recruiting students.
