Education combined degrees

  • Back to subject list

Students taking education as part of a combined honours degree are given the opportunity to study education as a process and an academic subject, building on and developing their own knowledge, understanding and experience.

The focus is on a range of core courses that look at contemporary issues, processes and approaches in education.

In the first year studies focus on aspects of contemporary education at the national policy level and on the nature of learning. In the following year, students study a number of core courses that cover, for example, equity issues in education, and up to two options selected from a range of specialist subjects including education management, early or later (adolescent) years, children's literature, educational thought and philosophical theory, mentoring, education for sustainability  and  additional educational needs. In the final year, the focus is on research in education, together with an individual project or further in-depth study of an option.

Education courses are taught by the School of Education  at  the Avery Hill Campus.
