Biomedical Sciences, Foundation Degree (Medway)

This programme is intended to meet the needs of those wishing to work in biomedical areas, which could be within the National Health Laboratory Service, laboratories carrying out diagnostic work within the private sector or research institutes. It would also be appropriate for people currently working in these environments who wish to develop their skills and knowledge as a way of advancing their careers. Progression to further study following this programme is also possible for those who wish to do so.

Aims of the programme

  • To acquire training in aspects of biomedical science relevant to laboratory diagnostic requirements
  • To gain a relevant knowledge and skills base
  • To obtain working experience via work-based learning activities

Attendance

2 years (7 hours per week); Two years and two terms part-time; Flexible/Distance Learning; Weekend option available.

2 years full-time 1 day per week plus occasional weekend workshops or 9 weekends per year plus tutorial and workshops on weekend days.

Full-time study is normally 3 days a week; Part-time is normally 1 day a week. Day of attendance varies with year of study.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have:120 points from A-levels, or equivalent.

PLUS GSCE Mathematics and English at grade C or above.

Assessment

Reports, essays, tests, presentations and examinations.

Career options

Career opportunities exist in biomedical related industries or within the National Health Service.
