Avery Hill accommodation is made up of shared flats and maisonettes and houses over 1,200 students. Each flat has its own well-equipped lounge/dining room/kitchen with cooker, fridge-freezer and microwave as standard. Entryphones are fitted for each flat and some have balconies with views over the park.
The Student Village is situated on the Southwood site, one side of the park, along with some of the teaching facilities and the Students’ union bars and function/event space. Much of the teaching takes place on the other side of the park – a short walk away – on the Mansion Site.
Set in parkland, the Student Village is approximately 20 minutes walk from the busy High Street shopping centre in Eltham. The accommodation is open to students from all campuses as well as those based at Avery Hill.
The complex includes 'The Dome', which houses the gym and café, and 'Sparrows Farm' which has entertainment and sports facilities. There is also a general shop, coin-operated launderette and some excellent sporting facilities. The buildings that make up the residential village are arranged in seven courts and named after Henry VIII and his six wives in honour of the nearby Eltham Palace, childhood home of the King. All flats are arranged on stairwells with entry phone governed access via the main ground floor doors.
Although the university tries to honour the preferences of students when allocating rooms in halls, students gaining places in the village are not guaranteed a room in a particular court in the first instance.
These historic courts offer single study/bedrooms in flats with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities - mostly for four or five students, but with some maisonettes containing six or seven rooms.
Each of these single study/bedrooms comes with en-suite shower/toilet facilities in flats with shared kitchens. The majority of flats are shared by six students, but Tudor Court flats are larger and offer space for nine in each.
Study/bedrooms have their own mini-fridges and are wired to allow direct access to the university’s network providing Internet and e-mail access. The campus is protected by CCTV and the university has 24 hour security staffing based at the main gatehouse.
Frequent local buses link Eltham, Greenwich and other suburban areas. The nearest train stations at Falconwood and New Eltham provide services into the capital, with a journey time to London Bridge and Charing Cross of about 30 minutes.
Students are able to use the university inter-campus bus service. This connects Avery Hill, Greenwich and Medway Campus and is the easiest way to travel between each campus during normal university hours.

The university has approved a Green Travel Plan for Avery Hill and this includes a charge to park your car on the campus. A special rate is available for residents in the village, but a permit must be purchased to authorise parking.
