Mature students

We welcome mature students who have successfully completed a "kitemarked" access course.

The university actively encourages mature students (defined as aged 21 and over) to apply and we do our utmost to ensure that life skills and work experience are valued as much as formal academic qualifications.

Mature students with some advanced study may be admitted directly into the programmes of their choice in the second year or even later.

If you are a mature student without formal qualifications, you can still apply to us. We look at each case individually and our main concern is that you will benefit from, and successfully complete, your chosen programme. Any information that supports your application should be included in your personal statement on the application form.

Advice is also available on adjusting to the rigours of study after a break from education, and on balancing the competing demands of programme and family. Facilities such as our early years childcare are there to help you.
