Planning your programme

You will arrive for Orientation the week prior to the beginning of class. During the semester , as well as taking part in normal University of Greenwich activities, you will also have the option to sign up to the Study Abroad and Exchange Student Social Programme.

The number and combination of courses you can take depends on whether you study with us for a semester or a full academic year, as shown by the table below. Course descriptions can be found in the Study Abroad Course Catalogue.

The academic year at Greenwich

For students studying the full degree at Greenwich, the academic year comprises three terms, with the majority of teaching taking place in Terms 1 and 2 and the assessment period taking place in Term 3. Full-degree students study 120 UK credits (equivalent to 32 US credits or 60 ECTS) in one academic year. They take full-year 30-credit courses or term-long 15-credit courses, or a combination of both.

The Study Abroad academic year is as follows:

Semester 1 (equivalent to Term 1 only, mid-Sept to mid-Dec):Study Abroad students take four 15-credit courses, earning 60 UK credits (equivalent to 16 US credits or 30 ECTS). Study Abroad students complete their assessment prior to leaving.

Semester 2 (equivalent to Term 2 and 3, mid-Jan to end May): Study Abroad students take four 15-credit courses, earning 60 UK credits (equivalent to 16 US credits or 30 ECTS). Study Abroad students complete their assessment prior to leaving. Assessment is completed during the usual assessment period.

Full academic year (equivalent to Terms 1, 2 and 3): Students take either four 30-credit courses, eight 15-credit courses or a combination of 30-credit and 15-credit courses, making a total of 120 UK credits (equivalent to 32 US credits or 60 ECTS). Assessment is completed during the usual assessment period.
