Engineering research student receives triple accolade

A1820-Engineering-research-student-receives-triple-accoladeA University of Greenwich at Medway student, Barry Piorkowski, has won three accolades recognising his research work with the leading civil and defence contractor BAE Systems, which is based nearby in Rochester, Kent.

Most recently Barry received the Best Paper award for the presentation he made about his research at an international conference about Enterprise Software & Applications at Coventry University, during the doctoral symposium day.

He has also had his work showcased in a highly respected professional journal, Eureka, as part of a feature on design expertise in industrial organisations. The publication promotes the latest ideas in innovation and technology to UK designers and managers.

Lastly, Barry was named as winner of the prize for Best Presentation at a recent research conference held by the School of Engineering at the University of Greenwich's Medway Campus at Chatham Maritime in Kent, attended by university staff and business people from the region.

PhD student Barry has been working with BAE Systems for the last 18 months, supported by his supervisor, Professor James Gao. Barry says: "It's been a great privilege to collaborate with a world-leading manufacturer on this project. My research aims to get the best value from knowledge for successful product development."

Professor Alan Reed, Director of Postgraduate Research at the University of Greenwich, says: “The university is delighted that Barry has received this triple recognition for his work. This is a clear demonstration of the relevance of his work to business, which is a fundamental part of the university's mission."
