Digital Literacies Research Group

This cluster will examine the role of digital literacies (DL) in supporting academic and vocational study and explore how best to support both staff and students in their digital skills development. The group has identified a number of areas of work including: defining what digital literacy is; evaluating the effectiveness of different media in promoting positive learning outcomes; improving the integration of existing tools and online resources used in teaching and resource discovery; encouraging more widespread adoption of existing and new e-resources with both staff and students; baselining staff and student levels of students’ IT literacy and linking DL informed curriculum enhancement to employer engagement. As part of a nationally funded JISC project, this group is developing evidence-informed strategies to align graduate attribute development with that of digital literacies linked to methodological interventions to support both transition and retention.
