Visitor visas for graduation ceremonies University of Greenwich

Visitor visas for guests

If you are inviting guests from overseas to attend your award ceremony and they require a visitor visa, you should make sure to refer to the Home Office information on the Standard Visitor visa.

A few months before your scheduled award ceremony, the Awards Ceremony department will send you information about how to book attendance at the ceremony.  It is necessary to book places for yourself and any guests if you wish to attend.

You can give your guests copies of your official results letter and also a copy of the information you receive from the Awards Ceremony department when they are applying for their visitor visa/s, to demonstrate the reason for their visit to the UK.  You should also write a letter of invitation to them.  The campus Student Centres do not produce special invitation letters for this purpose as it is not specifically a required document for the visitor visa application.

Visitor visas for students wanting to return to the UK for the ceremony

If you studied on a Tier 4 visa and there is not sufficient time on the visa to attend the graduation ceremony, unfortunately UKVI will not extend the Tier 4 visa for this purpose. Unless another visa type is available to you, the best option is to leave the UK and then apply to re-enter the UK to attend your graduation ceremony by making a Standard Visitor visa application.  If you wish to bring guests with you they should also make visitor visa applications.
