Before specific exam arrangements can be put in place, the university requires evidence of a disability or specific learning difficulty.
- In the case of specific learning difficulties, diagnostic evidence from a psychologist or specialist teacher (carried out post-16) is required.
- For other disabilities documentation of your disability may be obtained from medical practitioners or specialists with expertise in diagnosing the condition for which an adjustment is being requested. Documentation must be relevant to the condition and to the adjustment required and should normally be dated no more than 12 months before the start of the course.
- In both cases further information from DSA needs assessments may be requested to support and supplement the medical/diagnostic evidence.
- Any recommendations made in evidence or needs assessments must conform to university examination regulations.
- In some cases the DSA Needs Assessment may be accepted in lieu of primary evidence if the assessment report provides adequate information and gives a clear line of reasoning from evidence to recommendation.
You must bring the evidence to the Disability & Dyslexia Centre on the campus where you are studying as early as possible so that we can check it meets university regulations and make the necessary applications. Early receipt of the evidence will reduce any delay in putting arrangements in place for you. Information about final deadlines for submitting evidence is published in the news section on the Disability & Dyslexia Centre homepage.
Please note:
- letters from previous schools, colleges or universities are not accepted as evidence
- old DSA assessments relating to previous courses will not be accepted as evidence.
Evidence in languages other than English
Evidence in languages other than English should be accompanied by a certified translation.
Please note: in all cases the university reserves the right to request further information if necessary.
