About Avery Hill Student Centre

The Student Centre

Your Student Centre can be found on the ground floor of Southwood House on the Southwood Site of the Avery Hill Campus and is open Monday-Friday 8.30-5.00pm. Your Student Centre Team are Amanda, Laura, Lesley, Lorraine, Ese, Rosemary, Theresa and Tracy. If you can’t visit us in person you can telephone on 0208 331 8444 or e-mail at studentcentreah@gre.ac.uk.

The Student Centre provides a broad advice and information service as well as administrative tasks such as registration and student ID cards; CRB and Occupational Health processes; help with your student records queries; letters and transcript requests, and a checking-in service for interview. We can also provide access to our specialist services more detail of which you will find below.

Avery Hill Student Centre adheres to a number of operational guidelines, policies and statements.

Specialist service areas

Student Finance

The Student Finance staff in the Centre can provide you with advice and information services to help you to develop budgeting skills and access to forms of financial assistance via a daily counter service, one-to-one appointments and drop-in sessions at these times:

Appointments

  • Monday 2.00pm – 4.00pm
  • Wednesday 10.00am – 12.00pm

  • Thursday 10.00am – 12.00pm

International Student Advice Service (ISAS)

Your International Team are Amanda and Isaac. You can book appointments to see them by popping in to the Student Centre or telephoning 020 8331 9457 or 020 8331 8444.

Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Checking Service

For those students who need to complete a Criminal Records Bureau check before they join a course, we offer a checking service to make sure you have completed the form correctly. Once you have accepted an offer of a place (usually after an interview) we will include the dates for this service in the information pack we send to you.

Guidance and Employability Team(GET)

Careers

Your Careers Adviser at Avery Hill is available for interviews and drop-in sessions in person and though our GET Online e-guidance service.

Jobshop

Drop-ins for contract signings take place in Room 005, Southwood House, contact GET for details of availability. If you are looking for part-time work then register with GET Online, where you can search for jobs in London, Kent, the UK and wider!

Mentoring

The mentoring service has been designed to give you additional support whilst completing your academic study and will help you to develop yourself both personally and professionally in preparation for entry into the graduate employment market. Ed is normally available in room A005 for mentoring and volunteering opportunities each Thursday between 2pm - 4pm.

Volunteering

The volunteering service promotes a wide range of opportunities for students, recent graduates and staff to volunteer in the communities of Greater London and Kent. The service offers a variety of opportunities and more information can be found here. Additionally, Ed is normally available in room A005 for mentoring and volunteering opportunities each Thursday between 2pm - 4pm.

Welfare and student support

Chaplaincy

The chaplaincy team can be found, along with the prayer room, in Flat 26 Aragon Court. Our chaplains offer friendship at all times, pastoral care in times of distress, advice, a listening ear, spiritual and personal guidance. More info can be found here.

Counselling

You can visit a counsellor for a short chat, a number of one-to-one sessions, or to participate in one of the many positive-thinking workshops they run: they are always there to listen to you and offer understanding and help. You can book an appointment with a counsellor through the Student Centre on 0208 331 9444 and find more information and advice on their web site here.

Disability and Dyslexia

You can find the team, Anne, Jane and Joy, in Flat 41 Aragon Court. The Disability & Dyslexia Team provide information, guidance and support to both disabled students and students with learning difficulties who work and study at the University, and to those who aspire to do so. You can book an appointment through the Student Centre on 0208 331 8444 and find more information on the web site here.

Health and Medical Services
