Student Employee Of The Year Awards 2011

For the first time ever the University of Greenwich is participating in the Student Employee Of The Year Awards, which is being coordinated by JobShop, part of the Guidance & Employability Team (GET).

Outline

The Student Employee of the Year Awards aim to recognise and promote the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who combine part-time work with their study commitments. It has been coordinated on an annual basis by the National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES) since 2002 and has grown year-on-year. This is the first time the University of Greenwich will be running its own awards, and will put forward our winners to the regional finals later in the year.

There are five categories this year, and an overall Student Employee of the Year Award:

  1. International Student Employee of the Year (internal or external student employee)
  2. On Campus Student Employee of the Year (open for any currently contracted student employee)
  3. Off Campus Student Employee of the Year (for students working part-time externally)
  4. Jobshop Student Employee of the Year (Temps Team only, to be nominated by JobShop staff)
  5. Student Employer of the Year (students may nominate their employer as well)

The winner from each student category will be nominated for the overall award of Student Employee of the Year.

There will also be an awards evening & reception on the Greenwich campus, where all nominees and their employers will be invited to attend, with winners announced.

Benefits for students:

There is an immediate positive advantage to having “Student Employee Of The Year Award 2011 nominee/winner” on a future graduate’s CV. If you are a student who is currently working part-time - either within the university on-campus or externally – JobShop strongly encourages you to ask your employer/line manager to nominate you before the  March 25 2011 deadline. What better way to potentially gain a very impressive testimonial from your employer?

Due to high number of contracted students we have this year, JobShop are especially keen to urge students who work within the university (on-campus) to ask their line managers to nominate them for the relevant category.

Benefits for external employers:

By nominating a University of Greenwich student who may be currently working part-time for you, the benefits will help enhance the profile and reputation of your business.

You will be invited to attend the awards evening in May on the flagship Greenwich campus, to support your nominee – hopefully they will be announced as a winner, to further boost your company profile. We will also include your company details on the web information after the winners are announced, to raise awareness of your involvement in supporting student employment. This is your opportunity to give back to your student employee, and help them improve their chances of finding work in the long-term.

Benefits to internal recruiters (i.e. campus-based employers)

JobShop at the University of Greenwich are aiming to encourage our internal recruiters to nominate as many suitable student employees as possible for this year’s SEOTY Awards. We have a large number of very impressive, dedicated and motivated student employees in various temporary posts on Avery Hill, Greenwich and Medway campuses – so please nominate any student employee you feel deserves to have the valuable mention of “Student Employee Of The Year Award 2011 Nominee” on their CV. Hopefully the nominee can eventually become a winner, which would reflect favorably on your own service/School as well.

Please note:

Student employees who are interested in being nominated for the Student Employee Of The Year awards must have demonstrated an exceptional level of competency during their part-time employment, which will be determined by the nominating employer based upon the key attributes, skills and other employability factors. Whilst JobShop actively encourages student employees to show interest in the awards, the nomination process is not automatic and will be ultimately decided by the internal employer (e.g. School, department). If a nomination is not deemed appropriate at this time, there may be positive feedback from the employer to highlight areas of further improvement, so the student employee may still benefit from the experience and possibly be nominated in the 2012 awards (depending on eligibility).
