Harrabin Consultancy essay competition

Harrabin Consultancy Ltd are looking to recruit graduating quantity surveyors.

For a chance to win a place at a networking evening for prospective employees, students are invited to submit an essay (200-500 words) answering one of the following questions

“Tell us about a project or situation where you felt that the conventional approach would not be suitable. How did you derive and manage a new approach? Which challenges did you face and how did you address them?”

or

“How have you used your initiative to solve a difficult problem. What did you do and what was the outcome?”

Prizes

  • All shortlisted students will be invited to attend an Open Evening at Harrabin Consultancy Ltd's head office on 22 February 2012.
  • From this event they will be looking to recruit potential graduate quantity surveyors.

Tips for success

  • Do your research! Look at the Harrabin Consultancy Ltd web pages. What kind of graduate skills and qualities do you think they look for?
  • Write down a list of possible examples you could use to answer the question, pick an example that will allow you to describe various relevant skills and attributes when answering the question.
  • Think about the structure of your essay and make sure you answer the question fully, you could use the STAR technique*.

    * STAR stands for Situation, Task, Action, Result, when you write your essay the emphasis should be on the action you took and the results of your actions.

Essays need to be submitted by 5pm, Friday 10 February 2012. *

* This has been extended from the previous deadline of Wednesday 1 February 2012. 

About Harrabin Consultancy Ltd

Harrabin Consultancy Ltd are a small, friendly company who provide construction cost planning, management solutions and consultancy advice to individual clients, architects, developers and contractors. Harrabin deal with companies such as Balfour Beatty, Morgan Sindall, Carillion, Kier, BAM and Vinci.

Harrabin currently have a team of 15 people who work for the firm, 8 of which work from our office in Crawley. The team works from the planning stage through to task completion in order to reduce risk, control projects and achieve value for money for their clients.
