About us
The Pharmaceutical Science Research Group works with the pharmaceutical industry to develop and commercialise drugs.
The group specialises in formulation design, medicinal product processing and process analytical technology with chemometrics. It also has expertise in the use of polymers, colloids and films for conventional and controlled-release drug delivery. In addition to conventional unit operation expertise in the production of medicinal products, there is a research focus on supercritical fluid-based processing and extrusion technology.
Two new specialisms were established in 2011 – metabonomics and paediatric medicines. The metabonomics group is concerned with understanding the metabolic responses to drugs, environmental changes and disease that may lead to more efficient drug discovery strategies and personalised medicines. The group is linked to the NIHR Medicines for Children Research Network and is looking to develop age-specific medicinal products for children to enhance clinical outcomes.
