The Pharmaceutical Science Research Group is an internationally recognised centre of excellence in pre-formulation and formulation science.

We work with some of the biggest names in the pharmaceutical industry, and conduct pioneering research into the development and commercialisation of drugs.

The research group is staffed by some of the country's leading experts in polymer and colloid chemistry, excipient characterisation and drug stability and has practical expertise in formulation design, medicinal product processing and process analytical technology with chemometrics.

Industrial collaborations

Our relationships extend beyond the traditional academia/industry collaborations. We develop new techniques that facilitate new approaches to drug formulation and processing, and we transfer technological advances from university into industry.

The research group has attracted over £3 million of funding and has secured research, training and consultancy contracts with government and industry. Our research work is supported by some of the world's leading pharmaceutical organisations, including Pfizer, the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council, GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, ICI, Johnson & Johnson, Vanguard Medica, Roche and Phase Separations.
