Senior Lecturer, Organic Chemistry
Pharmaceutical, Chemical & Environmental Sciences
Dr Mike Todd obtained his BSc in chemical sciences (First Class Honours) at the University of East Anglia in 1977, and later completed his PhD in synthetic organic chemistry at the same institution in 1980.
During 1980–82 he was employed as a postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Organic Chemistry at the University of Leeds and worked on the chemical synthesis of various natural product targets. In the 1982–83 academic session he completed a PGCE (FE) course at Huddersfield Polytechnic (now Huddersfield University) and was awarded a special commendation.
In autumn 1983, Dr Todd was appointed to a temporary lecturer post in the Chemistry Department at the University of Durham, where he worked on developing new methods for the synthesis of partially fluorinated organic molecules. In late 1984, Dr Todd moved to a full time lecturer post at University if Greenwich and was subsequently promoted to the post of Senior Lecturer in Organic Chemistry.
He was recently given an award by the University of Greenwich in recognition of his 25 years of service to the institution. During his time at the University of Greenwich Dr Todd has continued his research interests in synthetic organic chemistry, and has supervised several PhD students and many MSc students. He has also served on several university committees during this period.
