Dr Fernando Naclerio joined the School of Science at the University of Greenwich in July 2011. He holds a PhD in Physiology (2006), a BSc in Exercise Sciences (1984) and professional accreditations and certifications including CSCS from NSCA (1996).

From August 2010 to January 2011 he was contracted as an international scholar, researcher and adjunct professor at The College of New Jersey (EEUU) after completing his post-doctoral training in the Exercise and Health Department.

From 1984 Dr Naclerio developed graduate degree programs in Training and Sports Nutrition at the Real Madrid School and the European University of Madrid, creating and contributing to a variety of activities and lecture courses including Applied Exercise and Training, Physiology Applied for Athletes, Exercise Testing and Prescription, Weight Training, Strength and Conditioning, Sports and Supplemental Nutrition for Health and Performance, and Biomechanics of Resistance Training. In 2009 Dr Naclerio was awarded a research professorship as the Director of the Nutrition Center for the European University of Madrid.

Prior to his arrival at the University of Greenwich Dr Naclerio held a Titular Professorial position in Exercise Sciences (Sport Training and Nutrition) at the European University of Madrid, where he was also promoted and recognised as Research-Professor. From May 2009 until July 2011 Dr. was the director of Nutrition centre responsible for a research grant of 90 000€.

Before entering academia Dr. Naclerio worked for more than 15 years as a coach and Sports Manager in the fitness industry for different health clubs in Argentina, Italy and Spain. He also served as scientific director of several prestigious sports technology companies including Globus Spain (from 1999 to 2004) and Sanocare (from 1999 to 2003). During this period, Dr. Naclerio collaborated on several projects for the development of software and specific devices used to control and measure human performance (e.g. transductors, force plates and electronic photocells).

Dr. Naclerio is a qualified 3º dan judo coach (Certified by Royal Spanish and Associate Sports Judo Federation), advising and coaching judo athletes from 1983 to 2000. During this time he also completed the advanced course of Soccer Coaching for Children at the Italian Olympic Center (credential Nº: 16500) and has been involved in various projects working with sports medicine physicians, designing conditioning programs for cyclists and other endurance athletes.

He was a scientific consultant for several important sports associations including Valencia Football Club during 1999 and the Reebok Sports Club Madrid from 2000 to 2004. In 2004, he became the Sports Director of “Mundo Salud Spain” where he developed several educational programs for personal trainers and pilates instructors.

Dr Naclerio serves as reviewer for Journal of Strength and Conditionin research; Journal of Sports Science and Medicine (JSSM), the Strength and Conditioning Journal (SCJ), and PONE-D (open access Journal) Kronos, the Scientific Journal of Physical Activity and Sports PubliCe Standard and Premium, the free electronic journal of www.sobreentrenamiento.com, and Brazilian Journal of Sports Sciences.

Dr. Naclerio has published 4 books in Spanish, 25 book chapters, and several peer-reviewed scientific papers and more than 100 scientific posters presented in national and international conferences and congresses.

Since joining the University of Greenwich Dr. Naclerio has acted as external advisor for the European University of Madrid- Real Madrid school and Sobreentrenamiento.com GSE company.
