Life & Sports Sciences

Programmes

The department’s programmes include biomedical sciences, biosciences, human nutrition and sports science. Within these areas, you can specialise in a range of topics, such as medical biochemistry, medical physiology or sports science (with professional football coaching), depending on your interest. Some subjects, like biomedical sciences, are vocational and accredited by professional bodies, while subjects like biosciences provide entry to teaching and research.

The department offers well-equipped facilities to support teaching, research and enterprise. We provide personal teaching and tutorial support and are committed to innovation in our degree programmes.

Links

Our staff provide consultancy to a range of public and private sector organisations. Strong links with industry have enabled us to focus our work in terms of research and enterprise activity, and deliver study programmes that prepare graduates for employment.

Research

Research activities range from sports and exercise science to biochemistry and molecular biology, biomedical science and human nutrition. We also provide Continuing Professional Development (CPD) within the NHS and other areas, and are planning to extend this role. Other research interests include bioremediation of soil, biotechnology, genetics, pharmacology, nutritional immunology, sports and health nutrition, public health and strength and conditioning.
