School of Social Sciences, Cardiff University
Emma Renold is Professor of Childhood Studies at the School of Social Sciences, Cardiff University, Wales. She is the author of Girls, Boys and Junior Sexualities (2005, Routledge), the co-founder of youngsexualities.org and was co-editor of the journal Gender and Education (2006–12). Working with queer and feminist post/constructionist theories, her research explores young gendered and sexual subjectivities across diverse institutional sites and public spaces (age 3-16). She is currently publishing (with Gabrielle Ivinson) from a community multi-media ethnography of girls’ and boys’ gendered negotiations of place and space in a semi-rural post-industrial locale.
Her latest research project (commissioned by the Welsh Government’s cross party group, “childhood, sexualities, sexualisation and equalities’) explores pre-teen gendered and sexual relationship cultures in rural and urban South Wales. This will be launched in October 2013. Over the next year, she will also be working on an edited collection, ‘Childhood, Sexuality and the Sexualisation of Culture’ (Palgrave) with Jessica Ringrose and Danielle Egan. See Emma’s academia.edu site for a full list of publications and research activities.
