Greenwich Maritime Institute will stage its latest research seminar tonight (Wednesday, 18 January). Richard Scott of Greenwich Maritime Institute will be presenting his paper called Anatomy of a Global Maritime Misfortune: The Bulk Carrier Market Collapse, 2008-2011.
The event starts at 6pm in Room 075, Queen Anne Court, Greenwich Campus. It is free to attend and all are welcome, with no need to book.
Richard Scott says: “There have been remarkable events in the shipping markets since the global financial crisis of September 2008, especially in the bulk carrier sector, where the downturn was especially dramatic.
“Bulk carrier time charter rates collapsed from $234,000 per day at their peak in mid-2008, to a low of around $2,000 per day six months later, although there was subsequently a partial recovery, followed by a renewed slump early this year. I hope to shed some light on these dramatic developments.”
Tea and coffee will be available from 5.30pm at the seminar, with a glass of wine afterwards.
