There can be no more relevant place to study marine or maritime matters than the Old Royal Naval College at Greenwich, London.
Greenwich is the world’s baseline for time and longitude, and the heart of Britain’s maritime heritage and naval tradition. Henry VIII had a palace here where Queen Elizabeth I – in whose reign Drake circumnavigated the world – was born in 1533. The Royal Observatory and the National Maritime Museum are adjacent to the College. Across the river, and upstream, lie Docklands and the City of London, centres of the world maritime and shipping industries. The UN International Maritime Organisation lies opposite Westminster.
The Greenwich Maritime Institute has close links with all of them, and with shipping companies around the world.
We currently offer the MA in Maritime History, MA in International Maritime Policy, MSc Maritime Security, MBA Maritime Management and MA by Research: Maritime Studies. These degree programmes can be taken full-time over a year, or part-time over two.
We have ten PhD students and three post-doctoral research fellows. In addition to our full-time staff, we employ more than 20 visiting lecturers and part-time staff.
Our future course is clear. We will maintain and reinforce our current strengths in maritime history, policy, sociology and business. And we will expand research and course development into the fields of the marine environment, energy, modern maritime security and disaster management.
Welcome aboard!
