Our specialisms
Through its long association with industry, the Wolfson Centre has developed a wide range of specialisms that can be made available to industry.
Historically, the initial formation of the research group in the early 1970s concentrated on the technology of pneumatic transportation of bulk materials. This particular field stills forms a key element of the work undertaken at our laboratories and represents one of the most defining differences relating to our activities – in that the volumes of material that we work with and the size of equipment used is invariably as close to industrial scale as practical.
From these earlier days of research and consultancy, it was apparent that pneumatic conveying was just one of many bulk handling challenges faced by industry on an almost daily basis. This observation and subsequent requests for assistance fuelled an expansion of our research topics, laboratory equipment types and consultancy services, to include bunker, silo and hopper design, feeder optimisation.
As industry sectors develop and encounter new particles, formulations and processing demands, our services continue to meet these ever changing challenges.
