Our school is a very special and exciting place to study. We offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the full spectrum of engineering disciplines that are widely recognised for their academic quality, innovation, and close ties to the industries in which our graduates work.
We take our commitment to teaching very seriously and have placed graduate employability at the centre of our teaching activities. We are continually developing new and innovative methods for involving students in the design and enhancement of our taught programmes. We are also one of the best equipped schools in the region, with purpose built labs and specialist equipment no longer found in many other universities. These facilities enable us to teach practical, as well as theoretical, skills.
Our aim is to offer our students opportunities to acquire practical skills that are directly transferable to your future workplace. We work closely with local, national and international companies to ensure that our courses provide you with all of the tools and skills to meet your future employment needs.
We also aim to ensure that we equip our graduates with the skills necessary to succeed in the workplace not only now, but also into the future. As such, we not only focus on the acquisition of technical knowledge, but also on transferable skills and professional practice, such as communication, critical thinking, management and problem-solving. While our focus is on producing world-class engineers, our graduates leave with a range of skills suited to pursuing many possible career directions.
We are also actively expanding our research. We are building on the international reputation of our research to new domains including security of critical national infrastructure, preservation and reconstruction of historic sites, user-centred design and smart/sustainable technologies, including the Internet of Things. These are very exciting developments for the school. We are committed to putting the user at the heart of the technologies of the future and to making those technologies as sustainable as possible.
Our research inspires and feeds directly into our teaching programmes, ensuring that all of our students benefit from exposure to the latest cutting-edge developments in research.
We are an ambitious school. Our goal is to become the leading school of our type in the South-East, equipping our students for the workplace of today and tomorrow and shaping the future of engineering and computing systems through our teaching and research.
