The School of Education’s Strategy for Research and Enterprise 2008–14 is supplemented by an enterprise strategy and operational plan and informed by the views of the School Senior Management Team and key research-interested staff. The School’s priorities for research and enterprise are:

- Advances academic and theoretical knowledge in education and training
- Develops expertise in professional knowledge and skills
- Facilitates "evidence-informed" interventions in education and training practice
- Bridges the divides between "academic", "professional" and "teaching" cultures
- Develops teaching and scholarship through rigorous peer-reviewed investigations
- Fosters collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
- Benefits the university and School from enhanced esteem in research and enterprise
- Substantially achieves enterprise and income generation throughout the School.
- To proactively support our staff to develop research and enterprise
- To strengthen and focus "clusters" of researchers in clearly themed groups
- To make substantial efforts to gain external funding to support capacity-building
- To energetically develop further recognition for our research and enterprise activities
- To work collaboratively with internal and external partners to achieve the above.
