The centre brings together postgraduate academic programmes, educational research, consultancy and enterprise staff, Doctoral, Master’s and continuing professional development (CPD) students, activities, theories and methods from many disciplines in education under the overall umbrella ‘leadership’ and ‘enterprise’.
We develop education and educational research within the social sciences, including studies in educational leadership, management in education, e-learning, organisational and policy analysis, widening participation, post-compulsory and lifelong learning, youth and community studies, qualitative and quantitative research. A focus on leadership and trust, communities of practice, values-based and strategic leadership in education as well as organisational and policy analysis forms part of ‘leadership studies’.

In his last report (2011) the Doctorate in Education external examiner reiterated his confidence in our ability to maintain standards and the quality of the work produced by students at Doctoral level. His commentary noted that ‘the quality of the assessment process is very high throughout and that the feedback to students is always excellent’. Both students and the external examiner have commended the quality of the learning experience, student support, thesis supervision and the high rates of timely completion. 93% of students rated the Doctorate in Education study weekend as either ‘very good’ or ‘good’.
