Growing a Small Entrepreneurial Business

Monday 19 March 2012

The Big Picture Seminar Series presents: Growing a Small Entrepreneurial Business presented by Ian Dean and Malik Benrejdal.

The old proverb “Mighty oaks from little acorns grow” is true in business. As an entrepreneur one tends to start small with an idea and then develop and grow. Growth comes in different ways; this seminar explores the perspectives of 2 entrepreneurs, one growing through diversification and the other through a combination of franchising and networking.

This presentation will explore both perspectives, giving you an insight into the positives and negatives of a small Entrepreneurial Business. As well as this, Ian and Malik will provide you with invaluable knowledge on the method you could potentially use to grow and develop your own business.

This seminar will be useful to anyone involved in Economic change, Growth and Development, Employment Institutions, HR Managers, Financial Institutions, Health, Education, Humanities, Business, Social Policy, Non-governmental organisations involved in development.

Speakers:

Ian Dean will discuss how he started his first business in hairdressing, and then diversified into new business areas. How he decided to enter these areas, how the businesses have grown (how much was planned and analysed versus gut feeling).  He will discuss the entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to take risk, and how he sees the businesses developing, and the value of having diversified business strands.

Malik Benrejdal, Chef d’Enterprise, I@D France, an estate agency business which is franchised, currently has 30,000 properties on its books.  Malik will discuss how the idea started, and how it has developed and grown. He will continue to talk about how much of the business model relies on the estate agency franchise, and on multi-layer organisation or network marketing. He will also mention his ideas for expansion beyond France.

This conference, hosted by the University of Greenwich, is being held at the Greenwich Campus, Old Royal Naval College.

The campus is based on a World Heritage Site on the banks of the river Thames. The university’s largest campus is centred on three baroque buildings designed by Sir Christopher Wren at the end of the 17th century.
"More breathtaking than the Versailles of Louis XIV" is how The Independent newspaper described it.

The Borough of Greenwich is steeped in history. East meets West on the Meridian Line, which divides the hemispheres and marks longitude zero. The line runs through the courtyard of the 17th century Royal Observatory and indicates the spot from which Greenwich Mean Time is calculated.
