Biography:

Jane Lethbridge specialises in the analysis of global commercialisation of health and social care and its impact on health and social care workers, social dialogue and trade union responses to liberalisation and privatisation. Jane has worked on public health issues in the UK and internationally, for over 20 years, with experience of management and project implementation in both the public and NGO sectors. Since 1994, Jane has specialised in policy development and strategic management. As a health policy consultant after 1999, Jane was commissioned to look at how practitioners were implementing National Service Frameworks in the NHS. From 2001-07, Jane was Senior Research Fellow, Public Services International Research Unit (PSIRU) (www.psiru.org), University of Greenwich. Jane is currently developing research into the involvement of professionals in the improvement of public services. 

Responsibilities within the university:

Teaching and administrative activities

Jane Lethbridge led a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) programme from 2007-10.  Jane is Principal Lecturer and International Coordinator in the Department of International Business & Economics.

Jane Lethbridge is currently researching;
• Global commercialisation of health and social care
• Social dialogue in the health and social care sectors in Europe
• Impact of public sector reforms on public sector workers
• Trade union responses to liberalisation and privatisation
• Professionals improving public services

External activities:

From 2002-04, Jane Lethbridge was a researcher for a UN Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) project ‘Commercialisation of healthcare: Global and Local responses and policy responses’. In 2004-6, Jane was part of an International Labour Organization (ILO)-Public Services International (PSI) project looking at the impact of liberalization and privatization policies on public sector workers. 

Jane is commissioned regularly by the European Federation of Public Sector Workers (EPSU) and Public Services International (PSI) and other agencies on issues of commercialisation in the healthcare and social care sectors and social dialogue.

Jane is a member of the Editorial Board of ‘Teaching Public Administration’ and she is an external reviewer for ‘International Review of Administrative Sciences’, ‘Globalization and Health’ and ‘Public Administration’
