Our department is focused on developing a greater understanding of how work affects people's lives, and how people’s behaviour at work affects an organisation’s success. Our commitment is to improving our students’ employability as managers.
“Teaching and research cover a range of disciplines, including organisational behaviour, human resource management, employee relations, training and development, business ethics, managing across cultures, communication skills and career management training.
We aim to develop our students’ abilities within these areas by applying innovative approaches to learning.
We run some of the most popular programmes in the university in which students gain a broad understanding of the functions of business, and which prepares them to become general managers. We also run specialist undergraduate programmes, as well as a number of postgraduate programmes in the field of human resource management.”
The department has long-standing links with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). Some of our programmes lead directly to membership of CIPD.
Our research focus ensures that our teaching and students are kept fresh, relevant and up to date. The department is actively involved in research and has papers published in respected academic journals on a regular basis. The Work & Employment Research Unit provides a focus for this work. Some staff have achieved international acclaim in their field of research and contribute to conferences all over the world.
