Chris ShelleyA "holistic" approach to the student experience is one of the aims of the university's new Director of Student & Academic Services.

Chris Shelley joins Greenwich next month from King's College London, where he was Director of Student Services.

He says: "I'm aiming to raise the profile of Student and Academic Services and help people understand how we can enhance the student experience.

"The main thing is to connect with academics and professional services colleagues to make sure we work together to deliver for our students.

"It's about taking a holistic view of the student experience, so people feel supported outside of, as well as in, the classroom. If we get that right everyone will see the benefits.

"Pace of work is important – we don't want to be setting a number of assignments all with the same deadline, for example."

Chris starts on Tuesday 5 September and joins the university with over ten years' experience in helping students. He worked at the National Union of Students for six years before joining King's.

He is also a member of the Student Services Organisation (AMOSSHE) Executive Committee and a trustee of the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, a workplace safety charity.
