Dr Satya Shah, pictured right, with the national awarding winning team of University of Greenwich ITMB studentsProposals for wearable technology for the financial industry have scooped the top prize in a national competition for a team of first year IT Management for Business (ITMB) degree students at the University of Greenwich (at Medway).

The six-strong winning team presented their concept and business plans for a Sentinel Band – enabling consumers to monitor their financial history on the move and make contactless payments -- to a panel of top national and international employers.

The winning team members were Ben Lammin, Bate Jordan, Day Jory, Niamh Brown, Cameron Holmes and Owen Mabbott.

Meanwhile, second and third year Greenwich ITMB students gained commendation awards for their competition entries and Ben Lammin, of the first year team, won a prize for his outstanding commitment and enthusiasm on the day.

Dr Satya Shah, the university’s ITMB senior lecturer and programme leader in the Faculty of Engineering & Science, says: “ITMB competitions attract students from 18 universities across the country.

“These awards continue the run of Greenwich ITMB student successes which have seen the university take five top prizes and two runner-up places during nine competitions in the past four years.”

The University of Greenwich ITMB programmes are part of a national initiative, led by e-skills UK in collaboration with 90 global companies and organisations committed to ensuring students have the right technical and business skills to enter the workplace after university.

The programmes are backed by such leading business names as Credit Suisse, Ford, IBM, Fujitsu, Unilever, GSK, Siemens, Deloitte and Cisco.

During their university courses, ITMB students gain exclusive access to employers at networking events and mock interview days; play an active role in solving real-business problems and challenges; access work placements with leading national companies alongside regular opportunities to experience inspirational talks packed with sector knowledge and careers advice from industry leaders.
