Co-authored by Professor Alessandro Benati, Dr. Cecile Laval and Dr. Maria Arche in the Faculty of Architecture, Computing & Humanities, ‘The Grammar Dimension in Instructed Second Language Learning’ has already won international praise.

Questions about the role of learning grammar are key in language acquisition, with constant debate over the most effective techniques. The book’s collection of papers compares linguistic theory to practice, to discover the best ways of approaching grammar in the language classroom. It also provides a list of guidelines for teaching.

Experts in the field have hailed the book as ‘an excellent collection’ and ‘essential reading’ for anyone involved in second language acquisition. Professor Peter Robinson, of Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo, Japan, describes it as authoritative, accessible, and very valuable’.

Alessandro Benati is the university’s Professor of Applied Linguistics & Second Language Studies, and a leading expert in the way that people learn languages. He says: “This collection of papers will serve as a springboard for fruitful debates between researchers and practitioners.”

Professor Benati has published widely on the subject of language learning and teaching. He recently led a prestigious education project in the Republic of Macedonia to improve the skills and effectiveness of language teachers.
