Greenwich undergraduate is National Student Employee of the Year

A1983-Greenwich-undergraduate-is-National-Student-Employee-of-the-YearUniversity of Greenwich Computer Science student, Mark Graham, has been named as the National Student Employee of the Year.

The awards, which were made by the National Association of Student Employment Services and Endsleigh Insurance, recognise the outstanding contributions of students who combine their studies with paid work for their universities.

Mark Graham, 39, who is studying in the University of Greenwich’s School of Computing & Mathematical Sciences, works as a student ambassador at the university, encouraging others to come into higher education.

He won a second award in the national On Campus Student Employee of the Year category, having already been the regional winner for the London area. The ceremony in Birmingham was held on Monday evening.

Mark, who says he has previously struggled in education and work, has recently been diagnosed with a number of disabilities on the autistic spectrum, found studying at Greenwich extremely beneficial. He says: “I feel proud to be studying and working as a student ambassador at the University of Greenwich and want to tell anyone with disabilities like mine that they can do well in life.”

Melanie Thorley, AccessAbility Project Co-ordinator, Access and Widening Participation Unit says: “Mark excels in all of his ambassador work and is an excellent role model. He is a great advocate for people on the autistic spectrum and has a wealth of experience and knowledge in that field. The feedback about his work from visitors, staff and ambassadors is always complimentary. He is always welcoming and enthusiastic when working with visitors.”

The University of Greenwich JobShop employs more than 350 students throughout the university and many others work for a range of employers in the region.
