The University of Greenwich Choir and Orchestra will be performing classic choral music by Mozart at a special musical extravaganza next week.
Pieces being performed on the night include the classic Requiem that was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1791.
The concert takes place on Tuesday, March 16 from 7.30pm to 10pm, at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel in Greenwich.
The programme for the evening begins with Mozart’s Requiem K426 (completed by Sussmayr), Bruckner’s Locus Iste, Verdi’s Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco, Karl Jenkins’ Benedictus from The Armed Man and Bob Chilcott’s Aesop’s Fables.
Aesop Fables was commissioned by the Eltham Choral Society, a locally based choir. The music is witty, lyrical and suitable for audiences of all ages.
There will be special individual solo performances on the night by several members of the university’s David Fussey Choral Exhibitioners, which promise to captivate the audience. The university choir will join forces with a range of exceptional young singers for the concert, including bass-baritone James Oldfield.
The concert will be conducted by University of Greenwich’s Music Director, Nicholas Jenkins.
Nicholas Jenkins says: “I am delighted to be able to showcase fine music by one of the world’s most famous composers. The concert is a perfect introduction to classical choral music and promises to be a memorable evening. Everyone is very welcome to attend.”
Tickets are available now from Greenwich Theatre Box Office on 020 8858 7755. Adult tickets are £10 each, OAPs £8 and students £6.
