Hundreds of students took advantage of the chance to talk face to face with representatives of key employers, charity groups and organisations from across Kent and Medway at the Universities at Medway Opportunities 09 event held on Tuesday (October 13).
Twenty-eight organisations and businesses, including Cummins UK, Ecologia Environmental Solutions, HACO (Health Action Charity), Kent Wildlife Trust and the Environment Agency, attended to discuss part time work and volunteering opportunities as well as full-time work placements with first, second and third year undergraduates.
Carol Welfare, JobShop Administrator for the Guidance & Employability Team at the University of Greenwich at Medway, said she was delighted with the response from both students and potential employers.
“There is no doubt that these are difficult times and our students are very aware that the graduates jobs market is becoming increasingly competitive.
“They know that they need to start building up their portfolios of work and volunteering experience to gain the knowledge and skills that will stand them in good stead when they are seeking career posts after graduating.
“And the investment businesses and organisations continue to make in attending this annual event is a reflection of the high value they place on the Universities at Medway undergraduates and the contributions they make when they join volunteering projects and undertake work placements,” she said.
