Thousands of callers have been jamming phone lines at the University of Greenwich, trying to get a last-minute place for this autumn. Some courses still have a few places available and the university is encouraging potential students to call to find out about their options.
On A-level results day, the university received an unprecedented 5,102 calls – up 40% on the previous year. Bev Woodhams, Head of Recruitment, says: "Most courses are filling up fast and some, especially those leading to a profession, are full. But there is always a little bit of adjustment in the last few weeks as applicants make up their mind so it's worth phoning up the hotline – 0800 005 006 – to check for vacancies.
"It's not too late to apply. If nursing is full, what about the BSc Health? If law is full, what about criminology or criminal justice? There may be other degrees which will still get you where you want to go, or open up new career paths.”
A list of vacancies and advice on how to apply to the university through Clearing can be found at www.gre.ac.uk
Bev adds: “Come and see the university to help you decide about your future. All three campuses, at Avery Hill, Greenwich and Medway, are open on Saturday 12 September from 10 am to 3pm. We have buses running between the campuses and lots of advisers, tutors and students on hand to show you around. If you can't make it on Saturday, call Derek Norris on 020 8331 8354 for an individual visit."
