Indian students’ most popular UK university has launched its Centre for Indian Business in Delhi (November 27).
The University of Greenwich, which has more students from India than any other UK university, has created a centre to help people and organisations do business in and with India.
Tim Gore, centre director, says: "The centre already teaches specialist MBAs on Indian business at the Greenwich campus and will offer short courses for executives and a range of knowledge and information services for business. In time we expect to develop research and consultancy."
Around a hundred people from industry and academia attended the launch. He adds: “We also had strong interest from Indian alumni across the world and several came to help us organise the event.”
The event was hosted by Tessa Blackstone, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Greenwich and industrialist Mukul Kasliwal, Chair of the Advisory Board, who generously funded the event.
As well as launching the centre, the university agreed a memorandum of understanding with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and a joint programme of activities. The university’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for Learning & Quality, Dr Margaret Noble and Tim Gore also attended the FICCI Higher Education Summit in Delhi. Dr Noble led a master class on quality assurance in educational partnerships which attracted over 30 vice chancellors and deputy vice chancellors, mainly from India. Tim Gore gave a plenary address focusing on the nature of knowledge production and how international links benefit local economies.
He also addressed the Association of Commonwealth Universities conference in Hyderabad and gave a paper asking if Thomas Friedman’s ‘Flat World’ applied to knowledge production, and how universities could better position themselves, taking into account what we know about knowledge production and dissemination.
