The sixth annual Thomas Mulquin Memorial Cup, in memory of a student from the University of Greenwich who died at his first training session with the university’s rugby team, will be played on Friday 14 November.
Thomas was a 20-year-old undergraduate in the second year of a computer science degree when he died of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome, in 2002.
The match, between the University of Greenwich Rugby Football Club (UGRFC) Chairman's “Select” team and the university Old Boys’ Team, will be played at Blackheath Football Club’s Rectory Field.
Included in the Chairman's Select will be Mark Osei-tutu - better known as MC Neutrino, former rapper with the So Solid Crew - who took up rugby with London Cornish RFC in 2007.
Other members of the team include former Canterbury RFC players and current Sidcup RFC players. The match is free to attend and always provides good entertainment. It has raised more than £1,000 every year for the Wooden Spoon rugby charity through an auction and programme sales.
