The University of Greenwich at Medway and Invicta FM teamed up to put on a 'monster' of a Halloween Ball last Friday, October 31. The event was headlined by Welsh rock band The Automatic, best known for their UK Number One single, Monster.
Hundreds of students, from the Universities at Medway and University of Greenwich students from the Avery Hill campus packed the Pilkington Building venue, along with ticket winners from Invicta FM.
The Automatic played an hour’s set from both their albums and a cover version of In the Club as featured on the new BBC Live Lounge album. The band really got in the spirit and appeared on stage dressed in full drag with a Halloween twist complete with fake blood on dresses, Amy Winehouse wigs and fangs. The biggest cheer of the night went to their topically named song, Monster.
The event was hosted by radio presenters James Heming and Stephen Sullivan from XFM and Invicta FM. There was also a performance by girl band, City Girls, and games on stage with cash prizes.
Many of the students dressed up in Halloween fancy dress following the theme, dress freaky or fancy, bizarre or beautiful.
Gavin Goodwin, University of Greenwich Marketing Communications Officer, who was the lead organiser of the event says: “The evening was a great success. We were delighted to bring such a big name band to the campus. The Automatic were really good sports, signing items for students and then going back into the venue for a dance with them.”
