Dramatic images from some of the world’s top photojournalists come to the University of Greenwich next month, as part of the new season at the Stephen Lawrence Gallery.

Selected by BBC presenter Robin Lustig, the exhibition marks the 60th anniversary of Magnum and the 75th anniversary of the BBC World Service, featuring images by Iranian photojournalist Abbas, French photographer Bruno Barbey and multi-award winner Paolo Pellegrin, contract photographer for Newsweek. The free exhibition opens on Wednesday, November 26, and runs until Friday, December 19.
The gallery’s new season entitled Seeing Ourselves – Representation in Focus opens with the exhibition, Time, on Monday, October 27.
Time examines the creative practices of a group of professional and amateur artists who are not part of the mainstream gallery system but who maintain an original output despite the pressures put on their time by everyday life and work commitments. In essence, the exhibition is about making time, and the preciousness of time in the context of making art.
A round-table discussion on the economics of making art outside the art market will feature as part of the exhibition, on Wednesday, October 29, at 6pm.
Stephen Lawrence Gallery curator, David Waterworth says: “Both exhibitions combine to provide a diverse introduction to the 2008-9 season which looks at different roles played by the image in the representative process.”
The Stephen Lawrence Gallery is located in Queen Anne Court at the University of Greenwich, Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich.
The gallery is open from 10am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and 11am to 4pm on Saturdays. Admission is free.
