  • A1594 - Cancer lecture

Lecture aims to increase cancer knowledge

A1594---Lauren-PecorinoA free lecture designed to increase public knowledge of cancer, including details of lifestyle changes that will help decrease the risk of acquiring the disease, will be held at the University of Greenwich at Medway on Wednesday, October 29.

Expert and author Dr Lauren Pecorino, who is a Principal Lecturer at the university teaching cancer biology, will give a talk on the disease, which effects one in three people.

The lecture will explore the definition of cancer and its causes as well as how people can make important lifestyle changes. There will also be information on the progress of new vaccines and treatments.

Dr Pecorino says: “Although cancer is a common disease there is a lack of public knowledge surrounding it. It’s very important that people know the changes they can implement, which decrease the risk of acquiring the disease. There are things that can be done, such as changes to our diet. It’s not just a case of relying on fate.

“This lecture is open to anyone who is interested. We really want to increase the knowledge people have about this disease to help make a difference.”

Admission to the lecture, which starts at 6.30pm, at the Pembroke Building on the university’s Chatham Maritime campus is free but by ticket only. Tickets are available on a first-come, first served basis and can be requested by calling 020 8331 9800 or by e-mailing science-queries@gre.ac.uk

Dr Pecorino belongs to the University of Greenwich’s School of Science, which carries out cutting-edge research in treating diseases and drug delivery.
