To meet the growing demand from Kent’s building industry, the University of Greenwich at Medway is to offer a range of construction courses from September.
The University of Greenwich has a long-established reputation within the county for providing quality teaching for the construction industry, with courses accredited by professional bodies including the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
From September, students will be able to sign up at Medway for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Building Surveying, Construction Management, Architectural Design and Quantity Surveying.
Peter Dalton, from the university’s School of Architecture & Construction, says: “Construction is coming to the University of Greenwich at Medway in order to meet the growing numbers of people from within Kent who require specialist training.
“We notice from our records that many students are travelling up from Kent for our construction courses at Avery Hill in South London, so we have decided to make extra training available from the Medway campus.
“As a county, Kent has a lot of construction schemes on the go and will continue to do so into the future - especially with regeneration of areas such as the Thames Gateway. As a university we felt it was important that we help meet the skills demand there is now and will be in the future and these courses will provide training and education to the next generation of construction professionals.”
Construction students will take advantage of the University of Greenwich’s specialist facilities at Medway, including the extensive Civil Engineering Laboratories. The construction courses at Medway are a return to fostering mutually-beneficial links with the Civil Engineering courses, which are also run from Medway. Both courses used to operate from the Dartford campus but when this closed the two schools were temporarily separated.
