An animated advert promoting Sports Science courses at the University of Greenwich at Medway has been shown at some of London’s top football clubs as part of an innovative marketing plan to inform potential students about what they can study.
More than 200,000 fans at Arsenal, Fulham and West Ham United have seen the new promo before and after recent pre-season friendly matches. The film highlights courses in the fields of sports science, football coaching and exercise and fitness, all starting at the university’s campus in Chatham Maritime this September.
The advert is part of a wider marketing campaign for the University of Greenwich, to inform prospective students that there is still time to apply for a university place this year.
Postcards have been included in local papers, and there are adverts on buses across the county. As well as traditional display advertising, Greenwich has taken space in the new media, including web sites such as Myspace, MSN and Bebo, which are increasingly used by the university’s target audience. The university has also raised its profile on regional radio.
The university’s Head of Marketing, Alison Woods, says: "Greenwich is a place that will help students to achieve their aspirations. We offer a quality education combined with lower fees. We are trying to let prospective students know what we can offer and hopefully we can catch their attention by trying something a little different that strays from the more traditional methods."
As well as the marketing campaign, a free Clearing telephone hotline is now open on 0800 005 006. Advisers will be on hand from 8.30am on Thursday, August 16, to help A-level students, who have received their results, as well as others who are interested in starting a course this September, to find the best course available.
It will be possible to visit all three university campuses at Medway, Avery Hill and Greenwich at special open days on Saturday, August 18 and Friday, August 24. Tours and a chance to talk to course tutors will be available from 10am to 3pm on both days and students can apply for courses at the events if they bring their results with them.
Informal campus tours, with no booking required, will run from Monday, August 20 to Thursday, August 23 to allow prospective students a chance to see the university’s facilities. The tours start every hour between 10am and 3pm and meeting points are at the Pembroke Building reception for the Medway campus; Queen Mary Building enquiry desk for the Greenwich campus and the Mansion Building reception for the Avery Hill campus.
