In the event of a fire, would you get out in time? That’s the question to be posed by Professor Ed Galea who is giving the University of Greenwich Annual Lecture on Monday, June 25 at 6pm. Ed is a life-saver – an international expert in fire safety engineering who helps to design safer buildings, trains, planes and ships by modelling how fires spread and how people behave trying to escape from them.
This lively talk, entitled Burning Questions, Model Answers – The Simulation of Fire and Human Behaviour, promises to be both hard-hitting and entertaining. It will feature Ed's award-winning computer simulation programmes, EXODUS and SMARTFIRE which are used in over 30 countries around the world. This software has helped to ensure the safety of Sydney Olympics, the Greenwich Millennium Dome, the Airbus A380 Super Jumbo and the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carrier.
The lecture is part of the Greenwich Alive! season 16-27 June 2007: a celebration of art, music and architecture (www.greenwichalive.com).
