Adam Brett, a second year Physical Education & Sport degree student from the University of Greenwich, has been honoured at the first National Aimhigher Awards, which took place last week. The award was for outstanding individual contribution to the Aimhigher programme to widen participation in higher education.
It recognises the work he carried out on behalf of the University of Greenwich based Aspire team at Beaverwood School in Chislehurst as well as running athletic training for students at Eltham Green School.
Adam who hopes to become a sports teacher and is also a student ambassador at the University of Greenwich says: “I was very proud to represent both my university and Aspire at this event, and to win an award for something I have very much enjoyed doing.”
The award highlights the work that Aspire staff based at the University of Greenwich are doing in south east London to help local youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds progress into higher education, by raising their aspirations and attainment.
There were more than 150 entries in this year’s awards scheme, which was established to celebrate the most effective and innovative Aimhigher activities across the country.
The awards reception was followed by the first National Aimhigher conference, which features a keynote speech from Bill Rammell, Minister for Higher Education and Lifelong Learning.
