The University of Greenwich at Medway has made a significant green initiative by installing an electric car charging point at their campus at Chatham Maritime. The facility has the capacity to charge two electric cars simultaneously.
Simon Earp, Transport & Greenwich Travel Manager explains: ”Charles May from the university’s School of Engineering, who wanted to use his electric car to commute into work, asked if it would be possible to install a charging point at the campus. I am pleased that the university has recognised the positive step he has taken and supported this form of green travel.”
Charles, a lecturer in Materials Engineering commutes into the campus at Chatham Maritime from his home near Tunbridge Wells. “Previously I was driving off site to recharge at Turks Boatyard in the Chatham Historic Boatyard. The new charging point has made things a lot simpler.”
Richard Cottam, Campus Facilities Manager at the University of Greenwich at Medway says: “Installing the facility was relatively straightforward and inexpensive. If there is further demand we can add more capacity. A simple calculation allowed us to work how much Charles pays for charging up his vehicle at the campus.”
G-Wiz electric cars are exempt from road tax and congestion charge, qualify for the lowest insurance group, and have a fuel economy equivalent to around 600 miles per gallon.
